Recent storms have damaged part of the Kent Event Centre at the Kent Showground at Detling, near Maidstone. But managers are vowing that it’s “business as usual”, with work already underway to make the site safe and to prepare for repairs.
The storms which have been battering Kent have caused widespread damage and destruction across the county and the exposed site at Detling has been whipped by high winds for several weeks.
The Kent County Agricultural Society is investing £1.5 million in a new structure will replace the old Kent Pavilion building, and part of a temporary structure has been badly damaged by the storms.
A spokesman said “significant” damage was caused and staff have since removed debris to make the site safe. “Despite the damage we have not had to cancel any events planned and it’s very much business as usual for us at the moment,” she added.
The new single span Kent Pavilion will be 44 metres wide and 72 metres long. It will seat up to 4,000 people in theatre style. Work started in October and the new Pavilion is scheduled to be officially opened at next summer’s Kent County Show.
